City of Palm Bay Executes Purchase Contract for Pelican Harbor Marina

PALM BAY, FLORIDA – On Friday, August 6th, City staff joined Mike Timmons from Space Coast Marinas, LLC to execute the purchase contract of the three parcels known as Pelican Harbor Marina located on Dixie Highway in the Bayfront area in Palm Bay.
 
Space Coast Marinas submitted a counteroffer of $1.7 million to purchase the Marina for the development of a dry dock boat storage and service facility, boat launch and wash service, boat club, ship store, tiki bar with an outdoor entertainment venue, restaurant, and retail amenities to include a valet service. Space Coast Marinas intends to renovate the existing marina slips and construct and maintain a public boardwalk along the waterfront. Space Coast Marinas anticipates the overall capital investment for this development project to be at least $10-12 million and create approximately 302 new jobs. The developer has also purchased two privately owned parcels, a vacant 0.37-acre site located at 4200 Dixie Highway NE, and has under contract the Bait & Tackle located at the southwest corner of Dixie Highway and Pospisil Avenue NE.
 
Under current plans, the buyer will retain Paddling Paradise, which is currently in a month-to-month lease with the City to operate out of the existing 1600 SF facility at 4220 Dixie Highway NE. Paddling Paradise has offered kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals and tours at this site for nearly two years, generating ecotourism to Turkey Creek and the Indian River along Palm Bay’s bayfront. “This is an exciting development project for the City,” said Joan Junkala-Brown, Deputy City Manager. “The proposed development will add value to what currently exists and further create an environment for residents and visitors to gather, eat, shop, and listen to live music whether arriving by boat or vehicle. This project will encourage further redevelopment of the area and hopefully serve as a catalyst to implement the City’s vision for a Bayfront Village, a quaint waterfront downtown district for the community to enjoy.”

Disney Cruise Line to Resume Bahamian Voyages from Florida on Disney Dream in August

Beginning August 9, the Disney Dream will resume voyages from Florida departing from Port Canaveral. The 3- and 4-night cruises will visit our private island, Disney Castaway Cay, in The Bahamas.

Our focus remains on operating our ships in a responsible way that continues to create magic for all on board. We are resuming sailing in a gradual, phased approach that emphasizes multiple layers of health and safety measures, developed in consideration of guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other medical experts.

City of Palm Bay Holiday Light Fest

Palm Bay Drive-thru Holiday Light Fest begins this Saturday night during our Holiday Light Parade. Light Fest is a free drive through holiday light display inside of Fred Poppe Regional Park. Light Fest will be held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6 to 9 PM through January 3. There will be no Light Fest on Friday, December 25 or Friday, January 1. Palm Bay Kidz Club Offers Summer Fun

This summer, Palm Bay Parks & Recreation will host the Palm Bay Kidz Club for four weeks from Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 31. The Palm Bay Kidz Club will operate Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 12:00pm. Activities will vary daily and include a variety of outdoor games. The Palm Bay Kidz Club is open to Palm Bay children ages 6 to 10 years old.


The Palm Bay Kidz Club will operate at three locations:
Fred Poppe Regional Park (1951 Malabar Road SW)
Goode Park (1300 Bianca Drive SE)
Liberty Park (895 Carlyle Ave SE)

Registration for the Palm Bay Kidz Club is available on a weekly basis. Spaces are limited at each location and registration will be available on a first come, first served basis. The cost to enroll is $60 per child, per week.

Registration for week 1 of the Palm Bay Kidz Club begins Monday, June 15 at 9:00am. Registration will be available online at www.PlayPalmBay.org. Patrons may also call the Tony Rosa Community Center at (321) 952-3443 or the Ted Whitlock Community Center at (321) 952-3231 to set up an appointment to register in person.

As the Palm Bay Kidz Club is an outdoor program, all activities are subject to change and weather permitting. Parents may call the special events rainout hotline at (321) 726-5682 for daily Kidz Club status due to weather.
